Last night at dinner, our friend Melissa asked if we made New Years resolutions. Or quick answer, “No.”
Making a list of things I will most likely never complete doesn’t sound like a joyous way to start the year. It feels heavy, cumbersome.
Melissa shared her version of resolutions. Instead of a list, she found a word or phrase to guide her year. Working full-time and completing her master’s degree, her word for 2012 was “persevere” (and that she did, graduating this December).
I’ve heard of this practice, but I have never tried it myself. I think this is the year.
I’ve started praying that God would reveal his word for me in 2013 and instead of feeling the weight of resolutions, I feel life, energy and excitement!
What’s your word?…
P.S. one other great idea to start the new year is to schedule in times throughout the year to spend those who are most important to you. If I wait to schedule that long weekend with my girlfriends or a vacation with family other things squeeze them out. Putting them on the calendar now makes them a priority.
